Read Your Way To Savings

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

My “big” boss is Australian who is based in France. Every now and then, she would come over to our office to organise things and check up on our team. She has been here for a week and the other night, while we were out for dinner, she asked me what I do to relax. The first thing that came to mind was “I read.” Now that I think about it, I realise that while it is true, I haven’t been doing as much reading as I would like to. So earlier today, I found myself browsing online stores to look for new books that I can put on my reading list, and before I knew it, I was taking the titles down of books related to saving money. I think that you would enjoy these books as well. Let’s take a look at some of them.

The Spend LESS Handbook - 365 Tips for a Better Quality of Life While Actually Spending Less by Rebecca Ash.
From the get go, my attention was already caught by the title alone. The idea of having a tip is already a good thing. Add to that the idea of living a good life without having to spend more – and I was hooked. The one thing that I have realised in the past years is that it seems that we have to shell out more and more money in order to do the things that we enjoy. Is it really possible to enjoy a life with a better quality and yet not spend more money? Based on the reviews and some excerpts from the book, it seems that Rebecca Ash focuses her thoughts on some basic things like getting rid of the irrelevant things in our lives. Now this should prove to be very interesting, to say the least.

The Book of Rubbish Ideas by Tracey Smith.
Again, the title of this book was an attention grabber for me. I thought it amusing that the title makes it as if the book is not worth anything when, in fact, it is about reducing the amount of rubbish that you create. Call it a nice way to catch the attention of people so that they can be friendlier to the environment. The practical thing about this book is that it is not just about general ideas. The whole book is actually like a tour of your house, room by room, with the aim of looking for things that you can recycle and to consider the waste that you produce in each room.

Save cash Save the Planet from Friends of the Earth
This book takes on a more general approach. From what I see, it covers anything and everything; from food to finance to home décor to birth and death, this book gives tips and ideas on how to save money and how to be friendly to the Earth as well.

All of these books are available at Amazon UK at very reasonable prices. They would make for a good weekend of reading, I think.
