I ran across this tag line on MSN and it just started one of those thinking moments. Does high IQ really equate to richness? I have always prided myself in being slightly smarter than average (yes I am trying to be modest). From elementary school until Uni, I wanted to firmly believe in this. Of course, being exposed to all those smart people in Uni shook me up a little bit. Anyhow, that is not the point of this post. So anyway, when I saw that tagline, I started thinking again.
I looked back to my friends and classmates in Uni. They were from all over the country – all over the world for that matter. Some had really high IQs, I presume, and some were not so blessed in that area. I realized that I could not really find proof – at least based on my experience – that high IQ means being rich. Now I start laughing at myself. All those IQ tests I have taken – I know my IQ is higher than normal. Yet where am I now on the “richness scale?” It is laughable, really.
The MSN article says: “You don’t have to be a genius to manage your money. That’s the take from a new study of intelligence and wealth, which looked at thousands of baby boomers and found that those with average and low IQs were just as good at saving money as those with high IQs. At the same time, smart people were just about as likely to run into credit problems.”
Now I feel vindicated!
