In the previous post I posed the question on whether bank holidays are beneficial to us or not. Long after I wrote the post I couldn’t help but think about reasons people have for not liking bank holidays. On thing that repeatedly came to mind is that days off would mean not having to go to work and thus (normally) having to go do something that might cost a lot of money. I am not generalising here – that is always a dangerous thing – but I am sure there are some who would agree with me that days out tend to use up money.
Yet it doesn’t have to be that way. Days out need not be that expensive and even frugal people could have a great time on a day out. Believe me, I am one of the strongest advocates of living frugally. Anyhow, here are some ideas that could make that day out as exciting and refreshing as anything else – without making your pocket all that much lighter.
First thing that comes to mind is going on a picnic. Whether you are a city dweller or you live in the countryside, a picnic is always a feasible idea. Cook up a simple lunch and head on out to a park or a field and spend a lazy day with friends or family. If you are within driving distance to a beach or a lake, then that would be just as great. This would not cost much – only the food and the petrol. Try it one day and I am sure you will agree with me.
