Everyone’s a sucker for reward schemes. Ask around the office and the chances are that most of your colleagues have at least one loyalty card in their wallet. And why not? If you shop regularly at a certain store, then why not earn points while you are it? Let’s take a look at a couple of the most popular reward schemes in the UK.
Nectar
This is undoubtedly the scheme with the widest coverage. Sainsbury’s, BP and Debenhams, Amazon, Argos, eBay – purchases from and transactions with these institutions automatically earn you points. Of course, the list is not limited to the names mentioned above. Try EDF (for energy), TalkTalk, and even Thomson. Since you are going to be spending money anyway, why not get into the reward scheme?
Tesco
I like their scheme because you can opt to convert your points into Deals vouchers, which are worth as much as 4 times more. These vouchers can be used for a variety of things, including restaurants and magazines subscriptions. Some of Tesco’s partners are Johnson’s dry cleaners, Powergen, Marriott hotels and Nationwide Auto Centres.
Boots
Both cards mentioned above give you about 1 to 2 points per pound spent. With Boots, though, you get 4 points for every pound. Sounds good, doesn’t it? You have to consider that sometimes, items are more expensive at Boots than in the supermarket. You might want to take a look at the price difference and not merely shop because of the points.
